Washington State Ferries
If you have a car, I would suggest taking the ferry up to the San Juan Islands. If you've never experienced a Washington State Ferry ride, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to take one. It's a beautiful scenic boat ride with 360-degree views of the PNW. The ferry ride typically lasts either an hour or an hour and thirty minutes, depending on which island you are headed to. MAKE SURE to get a ferry reservation ahead of time. These ferries book up FAST, and you do not want to show up at the ferry terminal without a ticket.

If you're feeling fun and adventurous, you could also take a seaplane up to the islands! Yes, you heard me... a SEAPLANE! 🛩️ It's definitely an experience like no other. You take off from Lake Washington right by Seattle, and 40 minutes later, you land on the water in the San Juans. I would recommend this form of travel if it's a special occasion. 🎉

This is THE place to stay at Roche Harbor—the iconic hotel, with lot's of history and it's situated right in the heart of all the action! Roche Harbor also offers a lot of Airbnb and VRBO options to rent. If you're traveling with more than two people, I recommend renting a house—it's the perfect way to enjoy your stay together!
