After 26 years of visiting Fire Island, we've found some hidden gems in Ocean Bay Park and Ocean Beach that have become trip staples. These are our personal favorites, and we hope you enjoy visiting them as much as we do!
Fire Island Ferries
As someone who’s taken the ferry with lots of baggage, here are a few tips I'd highly recommend. If you're staying for an extended time, bring food and drinks since prices on the island can be high—this will save you some cash. Also, a wheelbarrow or wheeled luggage is a game-changer for easily transporting your stuff. Lastly, don’t forget to download the new FI Ferries app for a quick and easy way to get your tickets!
See MoreSchooner Inn
Schooner Inn is an all-time favorite of ours. Every night features bingo where the grand prize is a bike! (That is like winning a car on this island) and they serve some of the best rocket fuels on the island. With unbeatable views, live music, and laid-back vibes, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy Fire Island!
See MoreBeach Street Pizza & Grille
One of our favorite traditions is ordering pizza and heading to the beach for sunset! It’s nostalgic and the perfect way to enjoy a slice with a view. This spot is the only pizzeria in Ocean Bay Park, making it easily accessible. You can sit there and savor it, or take it to the docks for a bayside slice—either way, it’s a must-try!
See MoreOcean Bay Park Market
This market serves some of the best egg sandwiches on the island, in my opinion. The staff is incredibly efficient, and they've organized a system that makes getting your sandwich much smoother than at other delis. What’s really unique is that instead of the usual chaos, you can relax outside, and someone from the kitchen brings your order to you—a thoughtful touch that’s rare for a market but truly appreciated!
See MoreSunken Forest
A perfect day trip from Ocean Bay Park, this spot is a must for morning exploration. It’s one of the most unique places on Fire Island, featuring a 1.5-mile boardwalk that winds through the forest—a truly unforgettable experience! Totally worth the adventure.
See MoreSeaview Market
This market has been our go-to for everything from drinks and breakfast to daily supplies. Since we were kids, we’ve always grabbed a corn muffin, Yoo-hoo, and a Boston cream donut here! The place hasn’t changed a bit, and it’s still the perfect spot to pick up essentials and a few nostalgic goodies.
See MoreTrip Highlight
Ocean Beach on Fire Island is offers a lively mix of restaurants, bars, and shops, all within a charming, car-free village. Highly recommend exploring during the day for their happy hour deals or to stop in their beachy shops for cute coastal clothes or souvenirs! It's perfect for families, day-trippers, and anyone looking to enjoy great food, live music, and beachside relaxation.
See MoreHideaway Restaurant
If you're looking for a casual spot with waterfront views, this local gem is perfect for happy hour. We love it for its laid-back vibe and unbeatable daytime specials—definitely a go-to for a relaxed afternoon by the water!
See MoreScoops
There are several ice cream shops around, but this one holds a special place in my heart since it's been here from the start. It’s a classic spot that always brings back childhood memories. I love ordering the cotton candy flavor—it’s a nostalgic treat every time!
See MoreIce Castle
One of our favorite candy spots, this place offers some of the most unique and funky candy selections we’ve ever seen! Plus, they have ice cream and fudge, making it a sweet lover’s paradise.
See MoreIsland Mermaid
This is a fantastic spot for seafood during the day and unbeatable happy hour deals, but what really sets it apart are the curated weekly events! My personal favorite, aside from drag bingo, is the lively drag show. Some of the queens even travel from The Pines to perform!
See MoreHousers Bar
This is hands down my favorite place to go out! The music is always great, there’s plenty of space to dance, and the overall vibe is unbeatable. It’s an absolute must if you’re looking for a fun night out!
See MoreTHE SANDBAR - FIRE ISLAND
For a fun night out with a young 20s crowd, this spot is perfect! Thursdays are our favorite, thanks to "Highlighter Night," where you can write on strangers with neon markers—a fun and unique way to meet new people! It's always a lively, social atmosphere!
