Portugal’s most southern coastal region of the Algarve may have some of the world’s most stunning beaches. You’ve definitely seen photos of them before but experiencing them in person is a whole new thing!
Praia do Amado
A surfer's paradise surrounded with red cliffs and no construction-- this feels like another planet. Just getting to this beach is part of the adventure! Veer off the paved road to a dirt track and twists around dry slopes and hills till you get to a parking lot, lined with campers and surf vans.
The beach has so many rolling waves--all levels of surfer can have fun here. And if you need a lesson, there's a few beach surf lessons available.
Don't skip stopping for a beverage at the outdoor cafes-the view there is something to be savored!

Easily one of the prettiest beaches I've seen, this beach is small enough to be intimate and special yet big enough so you won't feel cramped. The natural rock formations and cliffs are incredibly gorgeous and the water is crystal clera.
Make sure you walk through the tunnel to check out the second side of the beach--my favorite part!

This beach town is centered around this lovely beach--the jumping off point for so many boat tours of Benagil Caves. While it's a busy beach, it's still lovely and the view from the top is worth the trek up.

Cacela Velha is known for it's incredibly wide beach that is accessible by foot during low tide and by boat during high tide. Small boats wait there and for a few euros, will ferry you to/from the sandy area.
The town is tiny--a couple of small restaurants/cafes-- so plan on bringing food, water and other supplies for your beach day.

More of a viewpoint with a tiny cove beach, this point must be scene to be believed. I checked it out at sunset but the cove beach down below is sweet spot for an afternoon or morning. Be prepared for the many stairs up!

A lively beach near Lagos, this beach is fun for a group or for those that want an accessible beach restuarant. There's also water sports and boat tours launching from this beach.
Don't worry--there's plenty of areas to find your own secluded beach bathing spot. Lots of students and young people flock here with games and picnics!

If you are staying at one of the hotels nearby, this is a lovely beach to spend the day. Great for families or couples- it’s clean, calm and lovely. It can get busy so come early for serene moments on the sand.

Walkable from Lagos, this is a popular spot for students (hence the name), locals and travelers. It's perfect for a quick beach hang.
