Caption: Zinzulusa Cave Castro Marina, Lecce
Caption: The best cave along the Adriatic side of Salento, Zinzulusa is very ancient but it has been discovered relatively recently in 1793 by Del Duca.
Zinzulusa is a place of wonder, astonishing rocks and wonderful story.
I've been here during a hot, sunny summertime day.
But inside everything is dark.
Enter the karstic tunnel...
Picture
Caption: The cave owes its name to the popular imagination: its many stalactites and stalagmites look like limp rags, which are called "zinzuli" in the local dialect.
And the tradition continues in attempt to identify shapes and characters in the rock.

Noi lo tentammo questo tuo mistero

Caption: Go look for St. Mary or Torre di Pisa or The Big Tree.
Caption: Along the tunnel which extends into the depths for about a hundred meters, there are white limestone rocks.
Invaluable droplets wet them: stalactites and stalagmites grow of one or two centimeters every hundred years thanks to those droplets.

Caption: At the end there is the Cathedral. A big, final chamber once inhabited by bats.

Caption: And they were so many that you could not see the ceiling.
They disappeared when the cave was cleaned for the public opening.
The bats footprints are still visible.
While the signatures are the memory of workers who have shoveled away the guano, for fifty years.
