Caption: New Mexico White Sands
Caption: Picking up where I left off..
After we had left Texas we had our sights set on the west coast, but not without out checking out a few stops in New Mexico and Arizona. First up was White Sands National Monument outside Alamogordo. This was definitely one of my favorite stops of the trip.

Caption: White Sands is a U.S. National Monument located southwest of Alamogordo. The area is surrounded by the San Augustin Mountains and the San Andreas Mountains. The miles of sand dunes are comprised of gypsum crystals, and it happens to be the largest gypsum dune field in the world at a total of 275 square miles.

Caption: During the Lost On Land trip we stayed in White Sands for two days, which involved camping overnight in the dunes. The campsites are completely primitive locations and require a 1.5 mile hike over the dunes to one of the eight designated campsites.

Caption: Later that evening we watched the Sun set over the dunes and mountains in the distance. I vividly remember shooting photos alongside @weaver , the two of us couldn't get enough of the beautiful landscape. We each shot a few dozen photos while walking towards the horizon. At one point we both stopped taking photos and stood completely still and silent atop one of the dunes , the sunset was one of the most beautiful we had ever seen. To continue taking photos would of been a total distraction to the beauty ahead of us.
I'll never forget it.

Caption: The colors of the sunset were some of the most vivid I've ever seen. What once was snow white sand has now turned to a mixture of blues, purples, and oranges, each contouring to the beautiful curves of the dunes. It truly was fantastic and unfortunately photos can't really do it any justice. You will have to see it for yourself someday.
