Caption: PART THREE San Polo + Dorsoduro Venice is an Italian coastal city located in the Veneto region. It is made of a group of 121 small islands connected by countless bridges. Its complex history begins in 421, but it was in the Middle Ages that the city became a great maritime power as well as a cultural hub. Exceptionally beautiful, Venice is famous for its gondolas, carnival and heritage monuments.
The Sestiere di San Polo was created around the Rialto Bridge. The Sestiere di Dorsoduro is filled with art galleries and university students.

Caption: The basilica of St. Mary of Health was erected following the eradication of a plague epidemic. It was built from 1631 to 1681 in the Venetian Baroque style. The church is adorned with “orecchioni”, these spiral volutes topped with statues. Inside are numerous paintings by Venetian masters.

Caption: This Gothic basilica is the second largest church in Venice. It was built from 1340 to 1443 by the Franciscan friars. Its pretty brick façade has marble ornaments, including an ogival cornice and pinnacles.

Caption: The Rialto Bridge is the most famous and oldest bridge in Venice. It has three pedestrian crossings and two rows of shops nestled in the arches. This stone bridge built from 1588 to 1591 rests on 6,000 stilts.
