Caption: PART TWO Castello Venice is an Italian coastal city located in the Veneto region. It is made of a group of 121 small islands connected by countless bridges. Its complex history begins in 421, but it was in the Middle Ages that the city became a great maritime power as well as a cultural hub. Exceptionally beautiful, Venice is known for its gondolas, carnival and heritage monuments.
The Sestiere di Castello is the largest one and is dominated by the Arsenale.

Caption: The Venetian Arsenal is a military base that once was the world’s first industrial ship factory (13th century). Two red brick turrets mark the maritime access to the arsenal. The Renaissance-style portal was completed in 1460 and is surrounded by white marble statues.

Caption: This asymmetrical Renaissance building was built for the Brotherhood of St. Mark in 1260. Its splendid façade has pilasters, niches and marble inlays. It now houses a hospital.

Caption: The basilica of Saints John and Paul was built in the 13th century by the Dominicans. It became the city’s pantheon in the 15th century. Its façade has a central rose window, oculi and pinnacles. This Gothic church was built in red brick with white stone inserts.
