Caption: PART ONE San Marco Venice is an Italian coastal city located in the Veneto region. It is made of a group of 121 small islands connected by countless bridges. Its complex history begins in 421, but it was in the Middle Ages that the city became a great maritime power as well as a cultural hub. Exceptionally beautiful, Venice is known for its gondolas, carnival and heritage monuments.
The Sestiere di San Marco includes the most famous sights and the only square of the city.

Caption: The first St. Mark’s Campanile was built in 1173 as a lighthouse to guide sailors to the lagoon. Unfortunately, it collapsed in 1902 and the current building dates from 1912. At the top is an observatory that offers an incredible view of the city.

Caption: The impressive St. Mark’s Basilica has been rebuilt and remodeled several times over the centuries. As its name suggest, it houses the relics of saint Mark that were brought back (stolen) from Egypt in 828. It is a Byzantine-influenced church with five domes, a Greek cross plan and a multitude of mosaics.
