Caption: The adventure starts with the 2-hour drive from Svaneti to Ushguli. With off-road conditions, the settlement can only be reached during weather-permitting days. Our trip almost got canceled because of rains in the morning which could cause landslides on the road.

Caption: Ushguli is a community of four villages located at an altitude of 2,100 meters in the western part of Georgia. Because of its proximity to the sea, the region is much greener than the mountains in the east side of the country.

Caption: A noticeable characteristic of these villages are the ancient tower houses which once functioned as defense dwellings. They are common in the Svaneti region of Georgia.
