Caption: Week twenty two and, yes, more local walks. This was week ten of lockdown, but while Scotland moved into phase one on May 29, it would be another month before the easing of restrictions in phase 2 meant that we could drive down the coast in East Lothian, back to our favourite walks. So this is still local. I hope you’re not getting too bored of these photos from the harbour and the sea front and the pond at the lagoons. Personally, while I was ready to see some different views ten weeks in, I was also grateful for these views, and these ever changing skies. And some really beautiful light.

Caption: The character of the pond started to change a little this week as the water level receded slightly and reeds appeared, creating a deep orange haze over the water in the sunlight. This looked lovely at first, but the reeds - or perhaps technically weeds - spread and spread, eventually covering most of the pond before being cut back over the last few weeks.

Caption: Phase 1 of lockdown easing in Scotland on May 29 included unrestricted exercise outdoors. As part of this, golf courses re-opened, including our local 9-hole course, the Musselburgh Links, The Old Course, which is one of the oldest courses in the world. We pass this course on the way to the ash lagoons. On this walk on the evening of May 29, the flags had reappeared.

Caption: I’ve said this before I know, but so much more could be done with this site at the lagoons. The views are incredible, but there are these ugly concrete benches and viewing’ terraces’. They hardly coax you to pause and have a seat and enjoy the view. There have been plans afoot for further redevelopment at the lagoons for years, but nothing has happened so far.
