Caption: Palazzo Madama owes its name to the Madame Reali Maria Cristina of Bourbon France and Maria Giovanna Battista of Savoy-Nemours who wanted it as their official residence. Situated on the foundations of a Roman gate Palazzo Madama was enlarged on order of Ludovico d’Acaja: it took a square shape with a courtyard and four cylindrical angolar towers.
The architect Filippo Juvarra designed a baroque palace in white marble and built the internal staircase between 1718 and 1721. Inside Palazzo Madama there are the apartments of the “Madame Reali” and the Civic Museum of Ancient Art.

Caption: The Royal Palace was the most important Savoy residence in Piedmont. In 1563 Emanuele Filiberto settled in the building that was originally a bishop’s residence. The palace was enlarged starting from the end of the sixteenth century on the basis of the projects of Ascanio Vitozzi, Amedeo di Castellamonte and Carlo Morello. The building was the seat of the monarchy until 1865. Inside the palace there are numerous halls of representation, the rooms of the Queen’s apartment, the ballroom and the apartments of the Dukes of Savoy.
