Adventure Lake District | UK
Caption: Last week my girlfriend and I, plus her Dad and Sister decided to go on a hiking trip to the Lake District in the north of the UK. We climbed Barf, Pillar and Robinson, as well as exploring many lakes such as Wast Water, Ennerdale and Buttermere. We wild camped and even slept in a barn one night. However the weather was not as we expected it to be...

Caption: B A R F On our first day we wild camped on the side of Whinlatter Forest, overlooking Keswick. Thankfully we had no rain, but as the night drew in the wind picked up and the rain began to fall. In our tents we could hear he wind approaching from our left, then sweeping across the trees as it got nearer and nearer. It was like a wave over the tops of the forest.
In the morning we woke early and had breakfast in the rain. But the higher we climbed the rain turned to sleet, then to snow. By the time we were at the top of Barf we were in a full on blizzard!
Walking back down the snow began to settle and we found ourselves in what only the cheesy term 'winter wonderland' can describe. It was wonderful. It didn't matter we were wet and cold as the snow and the forest was just to beautiful.

The lake was gorgeous and we could see the peak and ridge of Pillar that we were going to climb the next day.

Caption: P I L L A R The next morning after are gear had dried we set off to climb Pillar. The start of the day was gorgeous. Sunny with a little wind to ensure you didn't get too hot while walking. But was we got past lunch the weather dramatically changed and the clouds rolled in fast.
The accent was dangerous, with much scrambling and rock climbing up the steep loose slate face of Pillar.
Eventually we got to the top to find there was little visibility and deep snow. It was exciting but you had to stay focused on not going falling over the edge where the wind how blown snow. Nor loosing the person in front of you!

After coming down from Pillar and camping we drove down the road to Wast Water. As you can imagine we stayed here for a while just to be in awe at the colours and atmosphere of where we had found ourselves.

Caption: B U T T E R M E R E We arrived in Buttermere to climb Robinson which was the easiest climb of our trip. This was our only totally dry day of the whole trip and so we made the most of it.
Robinson was a strange climb with a rocky first and last part with a flat boggy marsh in the middle. However the clear views from the top over looking Kirk Fell, Dale Head, Pillar and Great Gable was brilliant! Oh and it was very windy!!!

Caption: For our last night we treated ourselves to a barn that we could sleep in. After that we make our way to Keswick for a full English breakfast and made our way home back south.
The trip was amazing.
Will be back in the summer but with shorts and a hammock this time!
