Caption: The rich historical heritage in Bacharach is definitely visible in the market square: the ‘Marktplatz’. Already in the Middle Ages, Bacharach was an important trading center for transhipment of wines. Many richly decorated half-timbered buildings bear witness to the prosperity of the time and still characterize the face of the town today. The most famous building is the ‘Altes Haus’. It was built in 1368, and it has kept its original style, both inside and outside, throughout the centuries. The old city walls with the iconic ‘Marktturm’ complete the medieval appearance.
