Beyond the Arctic Polar Circle

Caption: After going through Vaasa, Kokkola, and Oulu along the Gulf of Bothnia, we arrived at the Sweden border over the Arctic Polar Circle.
We decided to cross the Finland border near Övertorneä, do 200 km in Sweden and then return in Finland at the latitude of Pajala.

Caption: The nature of Muonio is expressive. There are a lot of large and small lakes with fish, hundreds of kilometers of rivers and streams, wilderness, fells and fertile soil for berries, roaring rapids and beutiful scenery.

Caption: Kilpisjärvi Kilpisjärvi is located in Enontekiö municipality in northwestern Finland. It is on the border between Sweden and Norway high above the Arctic Circle. Distance to the Arctic Ocean is less than 50 kilometers. The village is almost 500 meters above the sea level. The word Kilpisjärvi is both the name of the lake and the village.

Caption: Gildetun We stayed for a night in Gildetun, over the fjords.
Gildetun is situated near European Highway E6 on
Mt. Kvænangsfjellet, 412 metres above sea level in northern Troms.
Here you will find mountains rising up out of the Arctic Ocean and a view of Northern Europe's only glacier that calves into the sea.

Caption: Nordkapptunnelen Nordkapptunnelen is one of the longest subsea road tunnels in Norway.
It is located in Nordkapp Municipality in Finnmark county in the far northern part of Norway. The tunnel goes under the Magerøysundet strait between the Norwegian mainland and the large island of Magerøya.
The tunnel was built between 1993 and 1999, along with the Honningsvåg Tunnel to connect the mainland to the town of Honningsvåg.

Caption: NordKapp This 307-metre-high (1,007 ft) cliff is commonly referred to as the northernmost point of Europe, however this is not accurate; the true northernmost point of the European mainland is Cape Nordkinn (Kinnarodden), at 71° 08′ 02″ N, located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from the village of Mehamn on the Nordkinn Peninsula. If Europe's northernmost point is allowed to be on an island, then it still is not the North Cape. It would be Cape Fligely on Rudolf Island, Franz Josef Land in Russia, which is located much further north at 81° 48′ 24″ N. If Franz Josef Land is not considered to be in Europe, then Europe's northernmost point is the northern point of the island of Rossøya, an islet in Svalbard, north of Spitsbergen at 80° 49′ 44.41″ N.
Nordkapp is, however, the northernmost point to which one can drive a car.

It was located near Honningsvåg, on the E6 road to NordKapp.

Caption: Back to Finland Abandoned the route E6 at Karasjok, we took the 92 till the Norwegian border.
We went back to Finland at the latitude of the border village of Karigasniemi, near Tana river.

Caption: INARI The village parish of Inari is situated by the large, beautiful Lake Inarijärvi and boasts the second largest population in both the municipality and Sami culture.
