Caption: THE LAUNDRY A Georgian house
Caption: I’ve long had a soft spot for Georgian houses. I love their simplicity and understated elegance, not to mention their balanced proportions, and this B-listed house, The Laundry, which is on the market with Strutt & Parker, is a fine example of the period.
It's also a house I could imagine living in. The current owners use it as a holiday home - can you imagine escaping here?

Caption: THE LAUNDRY Located in the coastal village of Cullen in Banffshire in the north of Scotland, this three bedroom property was built in the 18th century as the laundry for Cullen House. The main house and its associated properties were converted back in the 1970s by the well-known architect and conservationist Kit Martin.
A local architect, Douglas Forest, worked with Martin on the conversion and restoration of Cullen House, and restored The Laundry for himself in the early 1980s.

Caption: I always admire the simple and often gutsy period detailing that's characteristic of Georgian architecture, and here you'll find beamed ceilings, working shutters and flagstone floors. There's also a beautifully simple stone fireplace in the main living space.
This backdrop has been complemented by the combination of antique and contemporary furniture to create a relaxed, lived-in feel.

The grounds include a bridge dating from 1740 that was designed by the renowned architect Robert Adam.
