Caption: I have been wanting to take a drive to the Bunya Mountains in Winter but the opportunity presented and here it is, a drive in Springtime. With Brisbane temperatures rising I couldn’t believe the mist as we were getting closer. So pleased I threw in a couple of sweaters, they will be worn.

Caption: Until now, I have never been to the Bunya Mountains. I’d heard about it but now it was time to visit. About 150km inland, even the drive up the mountains is peaceful. With the scenery changing and the temperature dropping I think this Getaway is going to be awesome.

Caption: With choices on which walk to take first, the decision was made to start with the 4km Scenic Circuit.

Caption: The Scenic Circuit takes you through the huge forest of Bunya pines where waterfalls flow when the rains come. Unfortunately, this trip The Scenic Circuit takes you past awesome Bunya Pines that are so tall that I got dizzy just looking up to see the canopy above. During this walk you walk by Festoon and Tim Shea falls that are sadly not flowing at the moment as it’s been so dry.

Caption: YOU DON'T ALWAYS NEED A PLAN. SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED TO BREATHE, TRUST, LET GO, AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
Bunya Mountains
Caption: If you are up for a short walk after breakfast one morning, take the Mt Kiangarow Track which really is fabulous. At its highest point, 1135m, the view is a great spot for sunsets to the west. Don’t expect a great sunset though when the fog doesn’t lift until 3pm. That in itself made for the tall grasses even more spectacular. It certainly makes for a mysterious walk.

Caption: Whether you are camping, caravanning or staying in a cabin, you can replenish your supplies at the general store, along with a restaurant cafe, which is across the road.

Caption: With so much more to see and walk through in this beautiful part of Queensland, it’s time to go and, reserve as place for next time.
Next time I might even do a spot of bird watching. With over 120 species to keep an eye out for, the short walks will take just that bit longer.
