Caption: The skeleton of Brightons West Pier, opened in 1866 and closed in 1975, it has been alight more than once and gradually collapses into the sea.

Caption: Eastbourne Pier, last year a building at the land end of the pier was destroyed by fire. The damaged steel framework has now been removed and the pier is open again, although not yet rebuilt.
