Caption: In 2016 I returned to Pakistan with a group of friends of mine who are world class paragliders. There was Tom Tom de Dorlodot, Horacio Llorens, and Hernan Pitocco, and we traveled to Hoshe.

Caption: Getting to Hoshe, it can be quite the journey. If you’re traveling via road from Islamabad it would take about three days of nonstop driving and certainly some pretty treacherous roads.

Caption: When you cross this one particular bridge near the village of Skardu, and you see the Karakoram Range for the first time, oh, that sight is something that’s always burned into my memory.

Caption: As a photographer covering paragliding I have always chosen to go up with a tandem pilot. When I’m in the sky the camera is glued to my face and I just find it’s far safer for me that I’d rather be flying with a skilled pilot.

Caption: Flying at a high altitude above the Karakoram range definitely has it’s dangers. We would always fly with oxygen bottles. Because you can do some pretty big cross country flights sometimes you had to conserve your oxygen.

Caption: So we found that once we reached about 6000 meters or perhaps even toward 6200 meters we’d certainly start to turn on the oxygen around this levels just to avoid the threat of hypoxia.

Caption: I had this one flight where we were trying to conserve the oxygen and I remember my head would just start to feel super heavy and I couldn’t control it.

Caption: Once hypoxia sets in, your body succumbs to that and the last thing you want to do is pass out whilst still in a paraglider.

Caption: We had these moments where we could fly quite close to these sheer gigantic cliffs! I guess in the image it felt like it gave more scale to just how tiny we were against these mountains.
