Caption: The Long (beautiful) Road to Cape Pillar Thirty kilometers roundtrip through steep ups and downs, every kind of weather, every hot and every cold imaginable. By the end we had walked this trail several times logging more miles in a week than we'd done the whole trip.

Caption: The walk 1,000 feet down. Straight down. Threw a pebble from the center - it took 9 seconds to hit the water. Rock so dense the sound of crashing waves travels up and takes over. Shuddering breath. Shivering feet. Tunnel vision. And, ironically, pure joy.
