Sulina is the easternmost city of Romania and a free port. It is located at the mouth of Sulina Branch, in Danube Delta, where the Danube meets the Black Sea.
Once a cosmopolite town (aprox. 30.000 inhabitants by the XIX-th century when french was the official language), is still a very old community of romanians, greeks, lipovans, ukrainians, russians, armenians and turks.
There are still legends about pirates, fishermans and unfulfilled love stories.

Preparing to explore the fabulous surroundings, in the Danube Delta, through the branches, up to the Black Sea.
Sulina branch is the only international navigable branch of the Danube three branches, due to his guaranteed depth of 18m. This means that also big cargo ships are allowed to enter.

Destination points are Letea Forest, the Sand Dunes and the village of Letea. Later on, at dusk, we will meet the mouth of Danube to the Black Sea and a very new island, which name is K Island.

Knowing the area so well, they will never get lost on the small branches, even on poor wheater conditions.

Caption: After the boat trip, we are going further on a safari trip to see Letea Forest and the Sand Dunes.
Very exciting! Wild horses and boar pigs live here in the wilderness. I've seen the horses from afar.🐴

Caption: Letea Forest was formed about 3.000 years ago, on a place once covered by Black Sea.
The soil is still salty and the secular trees do not have deep roots. The dunes were brought here by the wind.

Caption: The next tree is aproximately 500 years old but there are older than this one. It is not allowed to visit them, being protected by law.

Near the forest is an old village, with mostly lipovans inhabitants.
Had the lunch here with the most delicios fish food. Local food is made with catfish and pike!

Life is pretty harsh. Isolated, with no car acces, people live here a simple and peaceful life. Most of them are fishermans.
What an experience!
Moving futher and leaving the village to meet the Black Sea and the influx from the Danube River.

Caption: K Island
We are already on a brand new island which was formed a few years ago from the sands brought by Chilia Branch, Sulina Branch and the Black Sea, in Musura Gulf.
Hundreds of birds come here at dusk. Pelicans, cormorants, wandering albastross and herons are here. The island has no inhabitants and it is protected by law, being a part of Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation.
Surprised by the beautiful sunset. Captured my wife and my son in an image where my son is beautifully surrounded in an afterglow light.

Caption: Sulina is visited not only for the old charm of the city or for the Danube Delta, but also for the beach.
The particularity of the beach is that the sand is the most refined in Europe and has a special magnetic property for people health.
