Caption: We drove to St. Marks historic lighthouse and wildlife preserve for the day to explore and get out of the house! We've been having a rough week and my mother in law is in town for a few days so we loaded up the car and take a little time to disconnect with everything else while reconnecting with each other and the natural beauty around us.

Caption: It was the monarch festival this weekend at St. Marks as the Monarchs are currently migrating. We just missed the big migration but there were still a few hundred hanging around. They were very friendly.

Caption: St. Marks is one of the oldest lighthouses in Florida. The inside isn't open to the public but you can explore the grounds, ride bikes, fish, hike or load up your small boat with a trolling motor to go out on the marsh. We wandered around the lighthouse and collected feathers, leaves and some small Dolomite stones.

Caption: We found a few Roseate spoonbill Ibis and watched them for a bit, along with a handful of alligators, a few dolphins and so many other birds. St. Marks is a really important place for bird watching. You can sit on the banks of the water and see a dozen different birds in a matter of minutes.
