Picture
Caption: Ever since reading the memoir Baltimore’s Mansion Larisa and I had wanted to visit this little country on the edge of the world (if you read the book you’ll understand the use of the word country). After 3 flights we landed under the cover of darkness. The next morning we awoke to high expectations.

She paused, gave us a sideways glance and said “but there is one better.”

Caption: At the end of the day, however, we did not get screeched in (look it up). Why? We don’t drink and unbearably strong rum seems to be the central ingredient. There is allegedly a non-alcoholic version but that sounded like it might just be turpentine

Totally?
Did it exceed our expectations?
Completely.
Will we be back?
If at all possible.

Caption: Footnote:
I read a book that claimed Newfoundlanders were the world’s most wonderful people. After 4 days of unprecedented hospitality I cannot disagree.
When checking in to fly out we found out we needed an additional rapid test. The ticket person took about 15 minutes helping us find a location that could accommodate. When we arrived at the pharmacy we found that she had called ahead and the staff were waiting to work through their lunch to make sure we made it back in time.

Caption: On the eve of Halloween we met two young men in western apparel who, upon finding out we were from the home of Jack Daniels, spoke at length about how our visit was a great honor to their humble town.
Our upstairs neighbor came to our door after an evening of trick-or-treating to make sure the visiting Americans had gotten some candy.
Upon learning of my wife’s history with refugee services our very local taxi driver was nearly moved to tears as he described his interactions with the towns African refugees.
What a wonderful break it was. We truly did get away from it all.
