This was our first stop on part 2 of our expedition cruise,
Salisbury Plain.
This breeding colony of King penguins is the second largest on South Georgia with an estimated population of around 80.000 (!)

Caption: FUR SEAL BATTLEFIELD Don’t be fooled! They may look cute, but they were very agressive since they had babies to protect. I never imagined I would roar at a fur seal ever in my life. Unfortunately I have no footage.

Fortunately, leucistic animals don’t suffer from the condition. However, they might be more at risk for predators.

Caption: Sir Ernest Shackleton, a polar explorer, tried to reach Antarctica with his ship Endurance.
It was 1915. He and his crew got trapped in pack ice, stranded on Elephant Island and moved to a better protection area on South Georgia. They survived. When he later died of a heart attack, his body was buried on South Georgia island.
The incredibly moody conditions we experienced, matched with how he must have felt back then.

I can highly recommend www.oceanwide-expeditions.com if you ever decide to make the journey down south.
I also want to submit this story to #epiXtrip
From the very, very moody South Georgia island to the very, very tropical Tahiti island.
The contrast couldn’t get any bigger.
