Caption: Last week was another one of those weeks where I spent too long at my desk. "Back in the day" when more people were getting their content fix from newspapers, my week involved heading out on shoots and interviewing people. The challenge was squeezing in enough desk time to write.
Now, I live online. That doesn't make for exhilarating photos.
Thank goodness I have Harris to drag me outside...

Caption: MONDAY It was a sunny day so Harris and I took a walk through town and along the Water of Leith. This was late in the afternoon and the light was beautiful, so I grabbed a photo at St Bernard's Well. This monument was designed in 1789 by the painter Alexander Nasymth and the statue represents Hygeia, the ancient Greek goddess of health.

Caption: TUESDAY I'm always looking for doors. And I mean always. Everywhere I go now. Here we have the slightly out-of-sync twins, 6 and 6a.

Caption: WEDNESDAY Houses that are being refurbished always catch my eye. This Georgian townhouse was renovated recently and I'd walk past most days as the builders were going about their work. You can't quite tell from this photo but all the original timber window shutters have been restored. Beautiful.

Caption: THURSDAY After work, Harris and I took the tram across town to Edinburgh's West End. Is it just me, or do you stop noticing monuments when you live in a city? Edinburgh has so many and yet I barely register their presence. I sense that #seewhatisee is changing this, however...
This is Robert, Viscount Melville.

Caption: FRIDAY On Friday evening we drove just down the coast to Musselburgh to give Harris a run (city parks are too stressful for him) and to get some sea air. So many years ago now, I used to take this walk every few days with my childhood dog, Smut.

Caption: SATURDAY A few weeks back, when we were walking through this woodland at Yellowcraig, a man passing us asked if we'd noticed the heron's nest. We hadn't, we said, but we'd keep our eyes peeled.
This weekend, we heard the birds before we saw the nest. You may need to turn your sound up for this one...
One of those magical moments.

Caption: SUNDAY Saturday was freezing, and I mean so cold and windy that we couldn't spend long on the beach, so we returned on Sunday when the weather had calmed down.
