Caption: How to sum up last week in #seewhatisee ...
There was a long bank holiday weekend, which meant beachwalking. And woodland walking. There were a few really good interviews. Which also meant I spent a few days at my desk writing while wondering what I was going to photograph.
And there was a General Election. As a journalist, even though I don't write about the news, I'm addicted to the news. So I watched way too much TV.

Caption: MONDAY Long weekends remind me of what's important in life: spending time with the people you care about, doing the things you enjoy.
This woodland is at Tyninghame in East Lothian and it leads to Ravensheugh Beach. We'd assumed this walk might be really busy on a bank holiday Monday, but we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

Caption: TUESDAY One of those rainy and dreich days that Scotland excels at.
We headed down the coast in the afternoon, having planned to go to North Berwick, but it was too wet. En-route we stopped off at Aberlady as I was interviewing someone about their home: a cottage dating from the 1680s and extended in the early 1900s. It was a lovely house that I'd have happily moved into. This is the view from the front door.

Caption: As we drove back into Edinburgh the sun appeared. We were hungry by this stage, too hungry for a walk, but Harris had been cooped up all day, so we stopped off at Musselburgh for a walk round Fisherrow Harbour and along the beach.
I used to walk round this harbour all the time as a kid as we lived nearby. This sound is so familiar.

Caption: WEDNESDAY I interviewed a musician about her home in Edinburgh's Leith area, which she had furnished in a cool mix of local charity and junk shop pieces and fleamarket finds from Berlin, where she had lived previously. Some people just have this eye for things, right?
I'd meant to take a photo for this story, but was in 'work mode' and only remembered as I was walking back home through Leith. So, instead...
The former Leith Academy was redeveloped some years ago to create loft apartments. I spotted the ornate gate down a lane off Leith Walk. Leith is full of these contrasts.
And charity shops.

Caption: THURSDAY Okay, so I shouldn't really have used this photo, because this is Harris's photo, and he featured it in his #seewhatisee story.
But Thursday was about the General Election here in the UK and this is the only photo from that day that had anything vaguely to do with the election. In Scotland, you could sense it was a day of change. Whatever your politics, whichever party you supported and however you felt on hearing the results on Friday morning, it was a day of change.
Also, on a lighter note, #DogsatPollingStations gave people something to chuckle about on Twitter.
There wasn't time to worry about composition here. It was too busy. So, sorry about the plastic bag in the background. And sorry to the man I cropped in half.

Caption: FRIDAY I spent Friday at my desk, trying to concentrate as notifications popped up on my phone about the election fallout. Clegg resigns, Milliband resigns, Farage resigns... hard to focus on interiors captions with all this going on.
Apart from which, I'd stayed up late on Thursday watching Sky News. And downloaded a new lock screen wallpaper from Design Milk. I love hand lettering and this month's offering is by the Texas-based graphic designer Casey Kleeb.

Caption: Later in the afternoon, Harris and I headed out for a walk. Harris was anxious, as he often is at the start of a city walk, and strange as it sounds, taking a few photos can be calming. It means we both stop, and I faff for a bit while Harris gets to take in his surroundings.
Here we are in the doorway of The Glasite Meeting House on Barony Street. Random, I know, but the door was open...

Caption: SATURDAY You know you're having an uneventful day when the best you can come up with is a photo of your desk. Especially when it's sunny outside.
I guess you can understand why I chose this desktop wallpaper from UK designer Stephen Wildish of Wildish & Co, available from Design Milk.
Arguably, I should bear this in mind when writing #seewhatisee text... 🙈

Caption: In the evening, Harris and I had a brief walk. If you work from home you'll understand this: you get cabin fever. You just *need* to get out.
This handsome building is the HQ of auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull.

Caption: SUNDAY We drove down the coast and walked through the woodland at Yellowcraig and onto the beach under a brooding sky.
It was wonderful.
It was also very, very windy.
