Caption: I grew up in California but I had never heard of the Kelso Sand Dunes until my husband and I visited them while we were driving through Southern California. The sand dunes are located in the Mojave Desert National Preserve and are hours away from the nearest towns of Needles and Barstow. But I'm very glad we drove out of our way to see them. The dunes are majestic and absolutely unique--definitely recommended!
