Caption: In 1610, after improving his painting skills for 7 years in Italy, at the age of 33, Rubens bought a house with land in Antwerp. He changed and extended it into an italian Palazzo and made it the most succesfull painting factory ever.

Caption: Immediatly after Rubens got settled in Antwerp, in 1610, an international demand for his paintings came up. Staff and students came in and the house became a factory and a school.
Already in 1611, some masterpieces already made, Rubens made many efforts refusing orders and students.
“Dear friend, regret to advice that i cannot take your son.... Already i refused the Prince of Oranje and so many of my own family.”
Rubens became one of the richest citizens in western Europe. Also he was a top diplomat.

Caption: While Rembrand painted 40 selfportaits, Rubens painted 4 only. The one in Antwerp, the most famous and informal, Rubens painted at the age of 53 when getting married with his 2nd wife.
Till date it always stayed in the house.
