Caption: Captain America made his comic debut in March 1941, with his own solo run entitled Captain America Comics, originally created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. He began in 1941 as a patriotic hero who often fought off the axis powers in WWII and was penned as propaganda to support the war cause. After the war however Timely Comics ended the character in 1950, it wouldn't be until 1964 that he would firmly return and since then he has remained in publication. Cap has become a staple of Marvel Publications and is core member of the Avengers also appearing vastly in media outside of comics. In fact Captain America was the first Avenger and Marvel character to have a film appearance beginning with 1944's "Captain America"
