Caption: We ventured through regions with a heavy past, where the Italian and Austrian armies had once battled fiercely in the dead of winter for control of the high ground during WWI. Boot packing up one unnamed couloir, we came across a large clump of barbed wire still hanging off the side of the rock wall. The feeling was one of humility and silent respect.
