Caption: The Raja Ampat Islands (Four Kings) are an Indonesian archipelago comprising over 1500 small islands surrounding the four main islands of Misool, Salawati, Batanta, and Waigeo. Located off the northwest tip of Bird’s Head Peninsula in West Papua, this archipelago is the part of Coral Triangle which contains the richest marine biodiversity on earth. To get here : fly to Sorong (closest big city from Raja Ampat) from Jakarta, then go to Sorong harbor and take a ferry to Waisai (small town in Waigeo), from Waisai you can go to the islands.

Caption: I visited Raja Ampat for the first time in December ‘17 - January ‘18. The best time to visit Raja Ampat is during the dry October-April period, which is by contrast the rainiest period in western and central Indonesia. It was a trip of a lifetime. You have to go there to ‘get it’. Raja Ampat is actually as beautiful as you see it in the pictures. They are not photoshop images. All those shades of blue glorify the view plus with the sunlight shining so bright create something magical about this place and it’s beautiful beyond imagination. I was completely awed. My words can't do it justice!!

Caption: I remember the day when my pic with these kids was taken, our speedboat was approaching their village for a much needed bath time in the ocean that day (aka snorkeling). We just got back and kinda tired from climbing hundreds of stairs at Piaynemo and the temperature was crazy hot. When we finally stepped onto the island, they ran to the end of the pier just to watch us unloading our stuff from the boat and stretching some stiff muscles after a long journey. So I stopped, turned, and asked them to get pictures and play with me. Sometimes, I imagine most of us in the city are as fascinated by indigenous populations as they are of us. This I felt was one of those moments, one of shared curiosity of the other.

Caption: Swimming with (baby) sharks This was my very first direct encounter with the shark in the ocean. All I could say I felt awe, pumped and found myself kicking closer to them to get a better look I was warned by our guide to not get too close. I was delighted with how they moved. So effortlessly yet so precisely.. What a beautiful creature.

Caption: Yapap It’s the combination of lagoon and karsts. No wonder this place is called “the hidden paradise on earth”. This location provides a serene atmosphere and pristine environment, a clear sea water with white sands, a never-ending sight of Karst islands, then very calm water just like a swimming pool. This is one of the most secluded natural swimming pools in the world.
