Caption: Preston School of industry was an all boys Reform School that was opened in June of 1894. "Preston Castle is one of the oldest Reform Schools in the United States, it is located on Preston Street in Ione California.

Caption: Before the school was opened, Young boys who committed minor offenses were sent to San Quentin prison in the Bay Area, and to Folsom State prison in Northern California.

Caption: The School focused on three main disciplines: Academic, Trade, and Military. Boys studied in the Castle for one half of the day and spent the other half learning, and working in a chosen trade. The School was self sufficient as the boys made their own clothing, buttons, zippers and boots. Crops were grown in the farm, and the boys in the culinary school cooked and served.

Caption: The building was vacated in 1960 after a new Youth Correctional Facility was built near by. Preston Youth Correctional facility was Permanently Closed in June of 2011
