Video of Monasterio de Santa Catalina
Caption: One of the main highlights of Arequipa is the Santa Catalina Monastery. Behind the thick walls hides an entire city that has been inhabited for centuries by hundreds of nuns. The monastery was built in 1579 and extends over 20.000 square meters. Nowadays it still is an important place for a small religious community.
The site is built of volcanic pillar rock like most buildings in Arequipa. Wander through the narrow streets, courtyards and admire all details of great architecture in this beautiful and peaceful place.
