Caption: HI THERE! This is a two-part story about Marburg - a fairytale town in Hesse, Germany - full of history and visual gems. Marburg is only about an hour’s ride north of Frankfurt. If you haven’t been, I can highly recommend a visit.
In this Part Two - about the historic Upper part of the town, which is also the Old Town - I will give you my top tips on what to do and see there. In Part One you’ll learn about the beautiful Lower Town. x Marianne

Caption: 1. Check out the gothic St. Mary’s parish church built in 1222.

Caption: 2. Hike the 1,8 km long themed Grimm path with fun facts from the 19th century and the Grimm brothers life. The hike starts at the Botanischer Garten, brings you through the Oberstadt, along the Marktplatz, St. Mary’s church and all the way up to the Landgrave castle.

2. Many streets have stairs because of the steep decline.
3. Marburg has Germany’s 1st protestant university, established in 1527.
4. The brothers Grimm studied at the Marburg University from 1802-1805.
5. Marburg has over 700 historical houses to explore/admire.
6. Marburg first came to prominence when the Hungarian princess Elisabeth moved there in the 13th century. She founded a hospital and gave up her wealth to help the poor. She was declared a saint in 1235 and also has a church named after her; the Elisabeth Church. 6 FUN FACTS
