Caption: Today we decided to spend the entire day in Valletta. The fastest way there is by ferry so we found our way down to the marina area and hopped on the ferry. Nice to get a different view of the Three Cities and Valetta from the water.

Caption: The ferry was only a 15 minute ride and once we got off on the other side we took the Barraka lift up to Valetta...basically an elevator that makes your journey up much easier; definitely worth it since it was boiling hot today at 29 degrees.
At the top you enter the Upper Barraka Gardens. Very nice garden area and a nice reprieve from the hot sun. Also has incredible views of Grand Harbour.

Caption: From here we entered into Valletta from one of the side entrances that took us into Pjazza Kastija. Valetta is a walled city and only 1 km by 600 km in size...very similar to Dubrovnik in Croatia, but not as much developed along the side streets. There were loads of people already taking in the sights and shops when we arrived at noon.
What a beautiful capital city...no wonder it is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Caption: We wandered down the main street and then ventured off through several of the side streets...lots of shopping to be done here for sure.
At about 1:30pm we decided to try and find a place to sit and have a drink and light lunch. After me being indecisive for way too long, we finally found a place to plunk ourselves down for a drink...pigeons and all! A couple hours later we decided to wander around and see some of the architecture and historic sites...from the outside at least.

Caption: There were so many stunning views it was hard to stop looking. We were getting pretty hungry so we decided to find a few spots we thought looked nice for dinner. Dinner doesn't typically start until 7:00pm and most people head out around 9:00pm...needless to say I am usually pretty hungry by supper time. To our surprise all the restaurants we were interested in going to were fully booked...should not have been a surprise since this IS Friday night in Valletta.

Caption: After some discussion, we decided to start with wine and cheese at a quaint little wine bar Trabuxu...meaning "corkscrew". It was decorated with musical instruments and bottles of wine against dark wood inside as 350 year old cellar...great vibe and atmosphere! To make things even better, we had a delightful server who helped us pick out great wine and French cheeses.

Caption: After lots of cheese, wine and people watching...this was the spot for that...we had to leave around 10:30pm to catch the last ferry. Unfortunate we had to leave so soon, as it appears Valletta just starts to come alive at that time of night.
