Caption: In July 2015, I spent three days in the magical Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya. I saw animals that I have dreamed about seeing in the wild since I was a child. We saw animals being born, hunted, mating, and stalked. Mother Nature sure knows how to put on a show.
Picture
Caption: Named after the ancestral inhabitants of the land, the Maasai people, as the Maa word for 'spotted', the Maasai Mara Reserve covers 1,510 sq Km in south-western Kenya. The reserve is part of the 25,000 sq Km Mara-Serengeti ecosystem that crosses into Tanzania.
Although we were a few weeks early to witness the 'great migration' of animals across the Tanzanian-Kenyan boder, we did witness other unforgettable acts of Mother Nature.

Caption: On the second day, we headed out earlier onto the Mara and the first thing we saw was a cheetah hunting for breakfast. The young cheetah chased down and caught a young Thompson's Gazelle. And as he ate we could hear the crunching of the bones.

Caption: On our last day in the Mara, we had only a few hours in the early morning to see what Mother Nature in store. As we were headed back to camp we stumbled upon a lone lioness stalking a heard of buffalo.
As she was about to make her move, she spotted a new born baby buffalo that was separated from the heard.

Caption: After a few minutes of watching, the lioness walked right up to the baby buffalo and took it away. Out of nowhere, three more lionesses showed up to the kill, with the larger heard still none the wiser.
It was one of the most awe inspiring, yet heartbreaking, moments I have ever witnessed. This is something that will stick with me forever.
