Starting from Flemmish tapestrie design and soft black marble from Dinant, Belgium, 4 italians did the carving and inlay work. The italians were 15times better paid than the kings best interior decorator and took 7 years.
When Louis XIV started wars, he could no longer afford having such tables made.
The feet of the table, and the other table, got lost.

Palissy was a Huguenot. His mecenas saved him from the 1572 Saint-Barthélemy massacre but in 1588 he was put in the Bastille prison for ending up under the guilotine in 1590.
