Caption: I've just been to PARADISE! Lord Howe Island is a volcanic remnant in the Tasman sea, coming under New South Wales tourism.
Lord Howe has been on my bucket list for awhile so I jumped at the chance to visit!

Caption: I arrived amid a turn for the worst weather wise and vowed to capture the island as best as I could despite 30 knot winds and frequent rain.
With some very cool stories, time spent with very cool people and extra equipment like water proof housing I think I managed just fine.
But imagine, the following is Lord Howe at her worst! š±

Caption: 1) An afternoon with naturalist Ian Hutton -
Ian taught me about the Lord Howe island Kentia palms from which seeds were harvested and sent all over the world as it grows well in colder climates. Seen an indoor palm? It's probably the Lord Howe Island Kentia! š“
Ian showed me the Providence Petrel, a large and trusting sea bird that will fall to the ground when they hear loud noises. Upon calling out these guys hit the ground around us with a series of thumps and let us touch and pet them!

Thanks to @Olympus_AU I was equipped with a fish eye lens and underwater housing and what better place to play with it than the famous Ned's Beach. The fish are literally swimming ankle deep from the shore and you can touch and swim with them!

This was a GREAT day! Eliza is a solid hike from Old Settlement Beach with lots of uphill climbing! We saw the Old Gulch and Herring Pools from our higher vantage point as well as views back towards Mt Gower, the highest peak on Lord Howe.

I was supposed to be staying at the famous Capella Lodge ( http://lordhowe.com ) but alas it was booked out for my visit. As a special treat they let me have a couple of meals there and join for some of their in-house activities, usually reserved for guests only!

Caption: All in all I think that Lord Howe island is a fabulous place with so many interesting species of plant and animal, loads to do and a great tourism industry.
The food was amazing everywhere I went, most people ride a bike everywhere (myself included! š²) and the locals are so friendly!!
Now I want to go back on a good day! ;)
