It's rarely at the top of anyone's travel list and most people tend to have an oversimplified vision of Portugal's capital city : Just another sunny, quiet, historical, stuck in time holiday destination.
But Lisbon is so much more than that : it's vibrant, strange, exciting, it's beautiful and authentic.
It's Europe as much as it is South America and North Africa.
It's a mix of cultures, people, and much more than just a holiday destination!

Caption: Let's start with the bad news: If you want to experience Lisbon without standing in the crowd or waiting in lines, you'll have to wake up early. Really early.
But don't worry, the Belem tower at sunrise or the empty courtyard of the Jeronimos Monastery are well worth waking up at dawn.
And if you need one more reason to get out of bed: Pasteis de Belem should do it. This bakery, established in 1837, serves the best Pasteis in Portugal! Order it with a hot chocolate and the sugar rush should carry you through the whole day!

Caption: It's now time to explore the historical center of Lisbon, so jump in the tram and head to Baixa!
Here you can get lost in the streets, climb to the top of the Elevador de Santa Justa or you can go for something a bit more... original: Like visit a doll hospital set in an old school, and ask yourself how much it would take for you to spend a night there!
To escape Portugal for an hour, push the door of Casa do Alentejo and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of an authentic Moroccan riad. And, if you're hungry, you can stop for lunch here!

The city might look quiet during the day, but past sunset it turns into one of the most vibrant party destinations in Europe, with some of the greatest bars you will ever visit - from the strange Victorian atmosphere of Pavilhão Chinêst to the underground vibes of Crew Hassan. The party is on from sunset to sunrise but with 1 Euro beer you might want to pace yourself if you want to last past midnight!
