Luang Prabang is my favorite town in SE Asia - so far.
We stayed in an Air BNB with Marion and Rudy in the most lovely guest room right on the Nam Khan River and just a little off the beaten path.

Caption: Cold River Homestay The location was perfect, the breakfast was excellent, they had bikes, they told us where to go and what to do and they took care of us when we were sick. The house is right there on the left with the red roof.

Caption: Giving Alms One of the many special things about Luang Prabang is that the Novice Monks walk the streets at dawn every morning to receive rice. This happens right at the end of our street.

Caption: Connecting The Novice Monks are so eager to practice their English. They all have cell phones, they're in school, they don't eat after 4:00, no alcohol, no sex. They can't except any money directly but you can buy them a juice or ice cream. They do go home to visit their families and they can wear what ever color orange robes they want.

Caption: Luang Prabang is a Unesco World Heritage site. There is a perfect balance of locals, old world feel, great food, lovely markets and good coffee. I could feel the timelessness of life that exists along the river banks of the Mekong.
