Caption: October 20, 2019 Spur-of-the-moment trips are usually the best and what a better time to do it than in autumn. New Hampshire has one of the best fall foliage. While Kamcamagus Highway might be the usual destination in autumn’, the Lakes Region offers the same stunning scenery and foliage but with the lakes adding another dimension to the landscape.
New Hampshire’s Lakes Region is located in the east-central part of the state, south of the White Mountains. It got its name from the numerous lakes in that region and three of the largest are Newfound Lake, Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee which we visited during this day trip last October. This area has one of most picturesque sceneries in New England year round but more so in autumn. 🇺🇸

Caption: 📍Bristol Our first stop was Newfound Lake in the town of Bristol. We arrived a little after 7am when the town was still asleep and it felt like we have the place just to ourselves. It was a brisk autumn morning but calm, dense fog blanketed the lake and part of the town was not visible in the distance. Eerily beautiful if I may say so. But as the sun rose, the fog gradually lifted and revealed the stunning sceneries beyond. It was that moment when I thought I received more than I sought.

Caption: Newfound Lake has 22 miles of shoreline, is about 2.5 miles wide and 6 miles long. It is considered one of the cleanest lake in the entire United States. Newfound Lake settlements include Bristol, Alexandria, Hebron ( the three towns we stopped by) and Bridgewater.

Caption: 📍Bog Brook, Bristol,NH We didn’t have a set itinerary so we just drove around. We stopped whenever we see something worth exploring. Somehow, we found a place to park here by the side of the road albeit briefly. This brook got our attention because we saw a man taking photographs.

Caption: We also made a brief stop in one of the neighborhoods of Alexandria. It was few minutes after 8am. There were few cars passing by but no people around or in this property. I spotted this house by the lake and I just have to stop and snap some photographs. The scenery has its understated appeal. 📍Alexandria

Caption: 📍Hebron Hebron, which sits at the north end of Newfound Lake, was our last brief stop before heading to Squam Lake. . As I mentioned earlier, we didn’t have an itinerary so this particular place was sort of a discovery. The little island I later found out is called Loon Island, A small patch of real property with such an impressive appeal. Autumn does not get any better than this or does it?

Caption: 📍Holderness Squam Lake in the town of Holderness was our next major stop on this trip. I’ve been to this lake once and was really smitten by it. It made an impression as a pristine and tranquil lake and autumn definitely highlights its beauty and charm. The only issue is there are no parking by the lake and there were private property signs everywhere. However, we secured a spot by the side of the road safe enough to park. We spent enough time to take photographs and more importantly enjoy nature at its finest.

Caption: Squam Lake is second largest lake in New Hampshire at 7 miles long and 4.6 miles wide. It is a nesting site for the common loons. Settlements include Holderness, Sandwich, Moultonborough and Center Harbor. The latter was the location of the 1981 film “On Golden Pond”.

Caption: Lake Winnipesaukee is the largest in the lakes region of New Hampshire. It is approximately 21 miles long and 1-9 miles wide. It is also the third largest lake in New England. Laconia is the main commercial city while Meredith is the tourist haven located at the northwestern reach of the lake.

Caption: Lake Winnipesaukee was the last stop on this day trip in the town of Meredith, We arrived around lunchtime. It was a cloudy day but the sun tried to peek through it. There were plenty of parking I must say with three hour limit. The time was probably not ideal for photography but I took few shots regardless and walked around the center of town then to Mill Falls Marketplace where we had lunch. 📍Meredith
