Caption: I visited Kylemore... as part of a Railtours drive around Connemara. Not having long on the grounds before we were back on the road again, I decided to concentrate on exploring the property by foot. What I found was such peace and stillness. It’s a wonderful place just to wander.
Albeit, one with a sad past.
Mitchell Henry built Kylemore for his wife in the 1800s on land they visited while on their honeymoon. She died before they could have a happily ever after though and it became a Benedictine monastery. Soon it will also be the home of classes for students from the USA’s University of Notre Dame.
