Caption: In 79 AD, the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius decimated Pompeii, leaving the city and all 20,000 of its inhabitants buried under nearly 20 feet of ash.
The city was rediscovered in 1599 and was found to be remarkably well-preserved.
Exploring Pompeii and learning its history may easily have been my favorite activity of the whole trip.
