Caption: Did you know that the origins of Halloween have Pagan roots in Ireland? The Pagan holiday of
Samhain celebrated the end
of summer and the
beginning of winter. During
this time it was believed that
the barriers between the
spirits worlds (light and
dark) were at the weakest,
allowing communication
between humans and various
monsters.

such as carving pumpkins and trick-or
treating have origins with Samhain.
Because monsters and ghosts walked the
earth at night on Samhain, it was custom
to dress up as ghosts, witches, and other
monsters as to not be kidnapped. It was
also customary to leave offerings of food
during this time (the treat), as well as
pranks were pulled in the night and
blamed on fairies (the trick).

Caption: For centuries, the Irish have carved faces into turnips and called them Jack o’ Lanterns. When the Irish immigrated to America they had a hard time finding turnips and thus turned to carving pumpkins instead. The new tradition of carving pumpkins has since made it back to Ireland as it's much easier to carve
