Caption: Draw desired shape of spoon on your board. STEP ONE

Caption: With hook knife, carve out the bowl of your spoon. Going perpendicular to the grain of the wood makes for bigger cuts. STEP TWO

Caption: With saw, make a rough cut of your spoon out of the board. I use a scroll saw. STEP THREE

Caption: With carving knife, whittle your spoon down to it's desired shape. Take note of the way the knife take pieces of the wood depending on the way you cut with the grain. It's easy to take too much! STEP FOUR

Caption: Sand until your hands feel like they are going to fall off. STEP FIVE

Caption: Oil and let dry. I use butcher block oil and it works well. STEP SIX
