Caption: We wanted to mark the end of a year - and the end of a decade - outside in nature, and to watch the sun set for the last time in 2019 by the sea. December 31 was a beautiful blue-skied day, so we headed down the coast for a walk that’s become a favourite of ours: following the coastal path from Gullane towards Aberlady Bay.

Caption: This is the point where you wind down to the beach, following this skinny path that leads between the WW2 sea defences and through the gorse, where the view just opens up before you.

Caption: We could feel the temperature drop as we followed the path down to the beach. The sunshine clearly hadn’t reached this spot as the ground was frozen underfoot; the grasses crisp with frost.
