Caption: The Himalayan wolf is a canine of debated taxonomy. It is distinguished by its genetic markers, DNA indicating that it is closer to the Holarctic gray wolf and is genetically the same as the Tibetan wolf and has association with the Africa Golden Wolf, there are no morphological difference between the wolves from the Indian Himalayan’s and those from Tibetan. The wolf is found in Northern India and in the region of eastern Kashmir and the Eastern part of Ultarakhand and found in The Himalayan regions.

It also showed that they share a maternal lineage with the African Golden Wolf. It possesses a unique paternal lineage that falls between the Grey Wolf and the African Golden Wolf.

The Himalayan wolf is listed as a endangered species and has been suggested by several biologists as a critically endangered species of canid, the wolves are protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act, and hunting is prohibited.
