Caption: There’s nothing quite like a good road-trip—even if it’s only for a day. I woke up early to make the 3 1/2 hour drive from Dublin to Donegal, but to make it more fun (and much longer) added some fun stops along the way.

Caption: #1 LOUGHCREW CAIRNS Loughcrew Cairns is a complex of megalithic tombs that date back to 4th millennium BC. It was about an hour and a half drive from Dublin, and then a half mile hike (uphill!). You will pass plenty of sheep along the way as the view with every step gets better and better.

Caption: #2 MURPH’S BISTRO There’s got to be good food for a successful road trip and you will find it at Murph’s Bistro. I ordered the famous chicken wings (because if it has ‘famous’ in the title, it must be good) & smoked fish chowder.

Caption: #3 KINAWLEY & HOLY TRINITY PARISH The best part about road trips is that you can stop whenever you see something interesting and that was the case with Kinawley Church. I saw it on the side of the road and made a u-turn because it was just so darn pretty.

Caption: #4 FLORENCE COURT FOREST PARK You can’t possibly pass by the tall green trees of Florence Court Forest Park without wanting to be amongst them. I pulled over the car and took a short (and absolutely gorgeous!) hike.

Caption: #5 ENNISKILLEN CASTLE MUSEUMS Enniskillen Castle is a 600 year old treasure found right in the middle of town. I had to maneuver some heavy traffic to get there, but it was worth it! You can go inside where you’ll find the Fermanagh County Museum or just walk the pretty perimeter.

Caption: #6 BELTANY STONE CIRCLE Dating back to 2100 BC, Beltany Stone Circle is an impressive megalithic site. But, I’m not going to lie, my favorite part was that you have to walk through a sheep pasture to get there!
