Caption: In the southern Kakheti region of Georgia, on the border with Azerbaijan, lies the ancient monastery complex of David Gareja (Davit Gareji). This area includes more than 20 cave complexes scattered across a semi-desert landscape. Originally founded by Saint David Garejeli, who came to Georgia from Mesopotamia in the 6th century to strengthen Christianity, this monastery is still occupied by Georgian Orthodox monks.
