JEA/NSPA Conference.
Caption: Our trip to Chicago was a dream come true because we learned how to become not only better journalists, but better people. Exploring new ground for the first time, we met and talked to others journalists, heard their stories and walked out with better tools to navigate the world of publications.

Caption: our first night Not only did we learn about journalism, but we also learned a lot about one another. We made connections that we wouldn't have made if it wasn't for this trip, and for that we are gratetful.

Caption: City experiences There were three groups of us that went to experience different parts of the city on media tours. One went to the Saturday Night Live experience, the next group ventured to Second City and the last one went to Northwestern University to the Medill Journalism School.

Caption: Second City In the Second City we were taught that taking chances makes life, and if you make a mistake, own it. Make it big. When you're a comedian, you laugh at your mistakes so laugh at them even if you are an average Joe or Jane.

Caption: OUR THIRD DAY On our third day we started tweeting/Facebook our sessions. When doing this we didn't only reach people in Chicago, but also at home.
Caption: On our fourth day we really got into becoming reporters and orchestrating our journalistic journeys.
In these sessions we came in as discovering ourselves and came out as journalists. One thing we were taught in every session was...#Speakup. Everyone has a story; it's our job to make sure it gets shared. Even if it's uncomfortably true and hard...because those are the stories that
need to be heard.

On our second day of becoming true journalists we started tweeting our experiences and what we learned. We did this to show people in Michigan and at school-and even the ones who helped us get to Chicago-that it was more than fine dining. It was brilliant learning taking place.
