Caption: For me, whenever I consider a holiday home, I'm looking for something very different to the home I live in all year round. Perhaps the kind of house I wish I lived in.
Of course, that 'something different' will translate into a variety of things for different people. It might mean an off-grid rustic shed or cottage where you can wake up to the most incredible views. For others, it could be a beach home in an exotic location.
For me, I'd happily have an interesting piece of architecture here in the UK. Particularly when the interesting piece of architecture is combined with a really cool interior.
This house, Bramley, certainly fits the bill. Built in 1971 by the architect Robin Spence, this single-storey house is a classic example of Modern architecture and is located in the village of Old Hunstanton on the north Norfolk coast.

Caption: Inspired by the midcentury Case Study houses, Bramley features an unusual steel portal I-beam frame construction with 32ft spans, and has bronze-anodised aluminium double-glazed elevations to both the front and rear.
This alone would be striking, but the current owners have created a wonderful contemporary home here while retaining the integrity of Spence's original 70s design, and have filled the spaces with a mix of their favourite midcentury and modern furniture and art.
There are two main living spaces: the light-filled and open-plan kitchen, dining and living room - a fantastic social zone, especially with the doors opened onto the terrace on warm days - and another family room with a big flatscreen TV. There's also a design library for those moments when you want to curl up for inspiration with a good book. There are two bedrooms along with a double sofa bed, so this house sleeps six.

Old Hunstanton Beach
Caption: Did I mention that Old Hunstanton beach - a mecca for kite surfers and kite boarders as the tide goes out for miles, leaving behind a wide expanse of flat sand - is just five minutes walk away? And that you can hire a beach hut at the local beach café?
